Hello my name is Mrs. Saavedra and I am a 3rd grade teacher at Hannah Caldwell Elementary School. I am a proud Union Township alumni. I have been teaching at Hannah Caldwell since 2013. I have a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education (Pre K- 6) and English. I also have a Masters Degree in Writing Studies. Both degrees were earned at Kean University.
I spent a couple years teaching writing at the university level but my passion has always been working with children. Since working at Hannah Caldwell, my life has changed. I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to inspire and learn with my students.
In my free time, I love to create music with my husband. He plays the drums and I sing with him. In my class, we incorporate music across the curriculum.
In addition, I am a huge animal lover. My students already know that I have 2 amazing dogs. Marty and Leonidas have become the unofficial mascots for our class.
Lastly, I am a writer and traveler. I have co-authored books and have published my research on Early Childhood and Writing on multiple occasions. Such publications have granted me the opportunities to travel and present my research across the country for conferences such as New York's National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Conference on College Composition and Communication.
I look forward to traveling again in the near future, some places I will be visiting are Philippines, Iceland and Alaska.
My love for learning, passion for music, animals, and writing are just some of the themes that are explored and incorporated in my classroom.
